Hi! Today I wan to talk about Jane Addams. She born in Cedarville, Illinois in 1860 into a wealthy family. She was a feminist social worker, cofounder of Hull House with Ellen Gates Starr and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Jane was a important leader in the history of social work and the suffragatte movement. Jane established Hull House in a poor neighborhood of Chicago. The settlement home provided the poor and working class with much-needed social services, such as child care and improved sanitation. Jane Addams's proposals at the beginning of the 20th century not only mark the first steps of Social Work in the world but in other areas, as it contains dimensions progressive, transgressive and extremely critical of the social scenario of the time. It is because of all her work and contributions that I admire her and value her work so much. Being a woman in her time was not easy and yet she did incredible things and left us a great legacy.
Post 3 : My favourite piece of technology
Hi everyone! My favorite piece of technology is GPS, or the Global Positioning System, which is a piece of technology that can pinpoint locations on earth from satellites in the earth's orbit. It helps me a lot, I can't imagine my life without it because I have very poor spatial orientation, and it is very difficult for me to remember how to get almost anywhere. I use the Google Maps application, which is very simple to use. Once you have downloaded the application, all you have to do is enter the address or name of the place you want to go, and it will show you multiple options to get there, whether on foot, by public transport, or by car, and show how long it can take approximately. Another function it has is to show you where you are in case you are lost or disoriented. The only point against it is that it needs the internet to work, at least on smart phones. I highly recommend this piece of technology, because I think it makes transportation to new places much easie...
